Project Summary

Humane Warriors is dedicated to empowering low-resource schools throughout India by revolutionizing their digital infrastructure. Through a powerful partnership with Labdoo, Humane Warriors establishes cutting-edge laptop labs to bring digital education to every student. We take great care in delivering these laptops to our partner schools and also provide one year of internet access and even support for a teacher’s salary to ensure these devices are utilized to their fullest potential.

TheNeed

In India, there are numerous low-resource schools where students are being deprived of the critical skills necessary to succeed in today’s job market. Basic digital competencies such as proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, e-learning resources, and even basic programming know-how are sorely lacking. This scarcity can be attributed to a lack of financial resources, shortage of qualified teachers, and the fact that many schools are situated in remote, resource-scarce villages. The consequences of this are dire, as it limits the potential of students to achieve their goals and create a brighter future.

Addressing Needs

The Facilitator training program is a year-long initiative which aims to motivate and empower Adivasi youth and equip them to work for and on social issues affecting them and their community using the tools and perspectives of education. The training is divided into 3 phases, the first two phases are residential and the third phase will happen through an experiential learning module. Phase 1: Understanding the self and the community we come from. The first phase is the foundational phase, where the young Adivasis start with exploring their life journeys and the identities they hold. Through this exploration, they would build ways to understand the society around them and the necessary emotional skills needed to live in society. Phase 2: Understanding the role education plays in their life and how education can be a tool for social change. Through this, they will be equipped with tools to work in their communities. Phase 3: The third phase will be creating spaces for them to work in their communities and learning more about the topics touched upon in the first two phases through a work-based approach and regular reflections and exposures. TakingAction

Humane Warriors partnered with VBVT during the lockdown, providing funds for food relief kits and ensuring uninterrupted education. They are now setting up a computer lab at the VBVT school through their Tech for Schools program. Additionally, we have formed a partnership with Spendedirekt.ch to support VBVT’s facilitator training program with annual funds.
We aim to work with 10 young Adivasi graduates for the first year-long program. During this program, they will engage in experiential learning sessions that encourage action and reflection. The focus will be on exploring themes that are essential to their way of life and gaining a deeper understanding of them. After completing the program, these young Adivasis will join community programs and continue their journey as role models.

1. Who is Spendedirekt?

To know a little bit about it, refer to http://spendedirekt.ch/

2. What is Viswa Bharathi Vidyodaya Trust (VBVT)?

Viswa Bharati Vidyodaya Trust (VBVT) was started in 1993, as a consolidation of the Adivasi Land Rights movement and as a part of the people’s collective Adivasi Munnetra Sangam (AMS), in order to address widespread educational deprivation amongst Adivasis living in 320 villages across the Gudalur valley, in the Nilgiris, South India. They have been working over the last 30 years with the vision of providing quality education — one that is meaningful and culturally relevant — for the Adivasi communities here with their active participation. They have focussed all their energy on the development of innovative, alternative and supplementary educational systems for the children, who are most often first-generation learners.
