Project Summary

During the first wave of COVID-19, India’s prolonged 50+ days lockdown had a devastating impact, not only stripping the majority of the informal workforce of their daily income, but also leaving many low-income families with depleted savings. In this critical time, our Fight Hunger, Fight Corona project emerged as a beacon of compassion, providing over 160,000 daily meals and essential ration kits to those in desperate need.

TheNeed

It’s essential to recognize that around 90% of India’s workforce, totaling approximately 400 million individuals, are employed in the informal sector, as reported by the International Labour Organization. These hardworking individuals fulfill roles as street food vendors, security guards, garbage collectors, domestic help, and more. Their daily wages, ranging from 300 to 400 rupees (around 3.8 – 5.0 CHF), are barely enough to meet their daily needs, emphasizing the crucial significance of each workday. With India under a 21-day lockdown, the majority of the informal workforce has been robbed of their livelihoods, forcing them to make an agonizing choice between protecting themselves from the coronavirus and enduring hunger.

Addressing Needs

By forging partnerships with local organizations in India and receiving generous funding from the global diaspora, Humane Warriors undertook a momentous initiative. We orchestrated the distribution of essential ration kits and established community kitchens in more than 25 locations nationwide. Our dedicated warriors meticulously crafted a comprehensive Standard Operating Protocol, ensuring the smooth onboarding of NGOs, sourcing of raw rations, efficient allocation of funds, and meticulous tracking of expenditures. This remarkable endeavor marked the inception of a profound and enduring relationship with our valued partners, as we worked together to make a meaningful and compassionate impact.

How Will Your Donations Be Used?

Your donation provided a lifeline for struggling families, ensuring their safety and preventing hunger. Even a small contribution sustained a family’s essential needs for 21 days. Basic provisions for a family of four, including wheat flour, rice, lentils, soap, sanitizer, and sanitary napkins, cost approximately 10 CHF (750 Rs) per week. For just the price of a pizza delivery, you made a life-saving impact. This was a 100% non-profit campaign with full financial transparency. Your support helped families and the unemployed whether the extended lockdown, providing both financial and emotional support.
